Places to visit
Many guests to Zakopane limit their visit to walking on the town main streets. We are not going to discourage you from everyday visits to Krupowki Street or to the areas of Gubalowka and Krokiew. However we wish to recommend you to take an opportunity to get to know other truly interesting places and people.
Old wooden houses, typical for Zakopane region in the 19th century, are located in the old part of Zakopane at streets: Koscieliska, Droga na Roje, Skibowki, Krzeptowki.
Also, there is the Old Little Church ( Stary Kosciolek) on ul. Krzeptowki. It was constructed between 1846 and 1847. Nearby, there is the Old Cemetery ( Stary Cmentarz) - Peksowy Brzyzek, which is the resting-place of many men who did a lot for the town, the Tatra Mountains and Poland. Tytus Chalubinski, Jan Sabala, Stanislaw Witkiewicz, The rev. Jozef Stolarczyk, Kornel Makuszynski, Mariusz Zaruski, Antoni Kenar, Antoni Rzasa, Wladyslaw Orkan, Juliusz Zborowski, are buried there. Also there will sou find tombs of Bronislaw Czech and Helena Marusarzowna.
HARENDA (you can get there by bus, going in the direction of Ustup) - There is a little church built in the 18th century and the famous Jan Kasprowicz Museum, established in the house in which the writer spent hid three years.
ATMA (ul. Kasprusie 19) - Polish outstanding composer Karol Szymanowski lived in the villa, which now is a museum dedicated to the composer of the ballet "Harnasie". Chamber music concerts and artists meeting are frequently organized here.
Bronislaw Czech Memory House ( Izba Pamieci Bronislawa Czecha) - Plac Niepodleglosci 4. This is the Mouse In which the famous skier lived, before he was murdered in the death camp in Auschwitz. The House is run by his sisters, who do paintings on glass as well.
Wladyslaw Hasior Gallery ( ul. Jagiellonska 18c ). The gallery was established in an old wine cellar of the Warszawianka Hotel. This is one of the most interesting author's galleries in Poland, a place where theatre shows, exhibitions and meeting with Wladyslaw Hasior are organized. Wladyslaw Hasior is an artist of European fame, eager to share with the audience hid views on art and display his rich, unique collection of slides ect.
CHATA "Tea" - Bulwary Slowackiego 39 - The Szymanski family have found a room in their house for an interesting ethnographical collection. The collection includes examples of goral (i.e. mountaineers ) everyday use objects, clothes, folk art, musical instruments, ect.
WILLA "Pod Jedlami" - on Koziniec - was designer by Stanislaw Witkiewicz and constructed In 1897 for Jan Gwalbert Pawlikowski. This is the biggest and the most beautiful house in the "Zakopane Style". Nearby, there is Dom "Pod Jesionami", The Kulczycki Art Gallery.
