You and the Tatra mountains wildlifeBecause of the beauty of their landscape and well preserved wildlife, the Tatra Mountains have been very attractive to tourists. Therefore, to protect their natural qualities the Tatra Mountains National Park was established in 1954. The Park encomposes the part of the Tatra Mountains which is in Poland. Its area of 21,164 ha is divided into strict and partial preservation areas. In the strict preservation area which are usually untouched and protect the most valuable species, human activity is very limited. In the partial preserwation areas, damaged by historical human activity, there is an attempt to repair the damage. All this is subjected to a higher good witch the enviroment protection, and serves well the purpose of education and recreation. Tourism and sport are the from of recreation found in the Tatra Mountains. A tourist or a hiker who walks in the Tatra Mountains following white-red-white or otherwise marked paths longer than 240 km, has a chance to see specific for area geological forms. Also, he or she can explore the lakes and spirngs, experience the ofte suprising change of scenery and climate, enjoy the reachness of fauna, and meet very rare animals which live only here, such as eagles, mountain goats and bears. Nevertheless, the tourist must also remember to protect the beauty of the Nature. He or she should not do anything that may introduce changes to nature and is harmful to it. In the Tatra Mountains National Park, one may walk only on the marked paths. One should not make noises, leave rubbish or be accompanied by dogs. Also, one may not pick up mushrooms, berries, roots or collect rock pieces. One must not light fires, camp or enter the area by a motor vehicle or by bike. If we follow these basic rules, we shall keep the Tatra Mountains rich as they are in wildlife and rare species, so that other people can also enjoy the pleasures of the region.
