The foehn windThe Foehn is very strong and impetuous but, also dry and warn wind. It usually causes the quick metling of the snow and the rapid thaws. In the Spring it quickens plant vegetation. However, it acts in a very unfavorable way on the human organism. In some people it causes sleepiness and the prolongation of the response time; in others, excitability and nervousness. People who normally suffer because of lung and heart troubles, suffer even more. During the Foehn, there are more heart attacks and difficult breathing problems. There are also more cases of quarles and suicide. It is easier to cause an accident. The Foehn goes on from a few to several hours, and then it slowly dies out. The sky becomes cloudy. It rains then usually in Zakopane. It snows on the mountains The strongest Foehn ever was noted in November 1965 on the Łomnicka Velly on the Slovacside of the Tatra Mountains. Its speed wad 78, 6 m/sec (286 km/h) The most disasteerous Foehn came in May 1968. Many trees in the mountains fell down because of this Foehn. Many slopes are still naked because of the wind!
